PS-SEAL® for Demanding Applications

Just like the choice between a pick-up truck and a sports car is a matter of what you need to do with it, selecting the right oil seal for your application will depend on your specific application parameters.

The Garlock® PS-SEAL® provides class-leading performance in a range of high-speed, extreme pressure (both high pressure and vacuum) conditions where many other seals fail. It’s not the go-anywhere, do-anything pick-up truck of oil seals — for example, most versions tolerate just .1 millimeters of misalignment — but for many applications it can be the difference between replacing a seal every two hours and every two months.

Available in a wide variety of standard or custom styles and materials, the PS-SEAL® is different from most standard seals in that it doesn’t use spring force as the means of maintaining contact between the seal and shaft. Instead, high-performance GYLON® modified PTFE is used to maintain the seal. The result is a seal that can withstand pressures up to 50 times that of standard lip seals, surface speeds up to 45 m/s, temperatures up to 500º F (260ºC), and can function in dry and abrasive environments.

PS-SEAL® designs are certified for use in pharmaceutical and food and beverage processing, mixers, agitators, paper mills and metal manufacturing. Different styles of GYLON® material are available to meet the needs of various applications, including highly abrasive or chemically aggressive materials.

It won’t be right for every application, but for those with very high speeds and pressure extremes, the PS-SEAL® might be the only true solution. Learn more about the PS-SEAL® and whether it’s right for you.
